Since I first started looking at bus conversions, one of the aspects that I’ve been undecided about is heat. There are any number of options. They include traditional ducted furnaces, radiant heat, and hydronic systems that use water for heat transfer.
My inclination is to go with a hydronic system because it can supply [...]

Last night, Keegan and I taped out the interior design on the floor of the bus. This helps get a feel for size and placement in the real world. The different floor levels still make it a little challenging to visualize, but this has been a very useful exercise.
A couple of [...]

I worked a little more on the exterior design renderings tonight. I increased the roof raise to 20″ and refined several parts of the model. Next I need to place windows, then I should be able to start playing with paint schemes, etc.
Also today Kendre picked up a new circular saw for me [...]

I have been working on details of various parts of the design. Here is a drawing of the drawers under the front/foot part of the queen bed. The rear/head part of the bed will rest on the engine box.
The side drawers are split so you can stand beside the bed and open one or [...]

Tonight I worked on some details of the battery compartment under the back bedroom. I wanted to be sure there was room for a decent sized fresh water tank and a reasonable number of house batteries.
I plan to use AGM batteries because they are sealed and don’t have the risks of leakage or [...]

After talking to my dad, I am starting to think about reclaiming the floorspace used by the stairwell. If I put the door at the level of the floor and had stairs outside (that could be extended and retracted remotely) it would make interior arrangement easier and possibly free up door positioning somewhat. [...]

I’ve been working on how to lay out the front part of the bus interior. I have been inspired by the ads I’ve seen for the new 2008 Dodge Caravan’s swiveling middle row of seats. Here’s some pics:
I like the idea of having an individual seat for everyone and mounting them on swivels [...]

I’ve started building a SketchUp model of the exterior for playing with things like paint schemes, roof raising, and window and door placement. It’s more work than the interior model because there are more curves and is harder to measure, etc. Anyway, I’ve made a good start:
I raised the roof 16″, removed the [...]
